Zero | the complete experience

What if the choices you didn’t make in this reality happened somewhere else? And what if you could physically navigate a moment of decision?

This video documents the experience and reveals the ideas behind Zero, an immersive 3 part installation developed in April and May of 2015, during Laboratory residency (Spokane, WA).

Zero–Part 2: Life

Zero is a 3 part site-specific immersive experience meant to be explored by a single person at a time.
It represents the stages of the soul, spirit and body from before birth to afterlife. The number 0 symbolizes a full circle and thus denotes infinity, completeness and holiness. While engaging in the experience the audience puts on earplugs, so they can hear their own breathing and turn the attention within.

This work was developed during a 2 month art residency (Laboratory Residency) in Spokane, WA.

Part 2 (seen in the video) is a bodily exploration, where the viewer is invited to engage with the life-sized work by walking within it while making their own decisions–such as going left, right or turning back. Regarded as a metaphor for one’s life trajectory, each segment of the structure is illuminated as people walk.
The structure as a whole is shaped as waves and brings about ideas of quantum mechanics, that investigates the microscopic world. In that realm, the laws indicate that particles are spread through space like waves, without any specific location, until they are measured. Studies on that field also suggest that the choices one hasn’t made in this reality happened in a parallel one. In other words, it is possible that you have chosen everything you haven’t experienced in this life.

Dos Sonhos Eu Sou o Amor (Of All Dreams I Am Love)

Festival Novas Artes Associadas opens TOMORROW in Portugal (until December 28th).

I’ll be showing a video about love, life and the choices we make. This piece is narrated by a lonely old man, whose sad and bitter stories mention the love he no longer has.
